"THE NEW GUARDIANS"
In the beginning, there was life. And with life, came emotion. Rage, Avarice, Fear, Willpower, Hope, Compassion, and Love. And with each of these emotions, a new shade to the universal spectrum was created. With light, came power. And with power came entities, forged directly from the power itself.
It wasn't until the Crisis arrived that the long fabled 'Blackest Night' arrived, leading to the sacrificing of the seven entities of power for the eight entity, life, to be revealed.
With no entities, the power was forced into 8 individuals who best suited the power it protects.
Alan Scott, Earth's first Green Lantern, found itself gaining the energy of the green entity of willpower, becoming Ion.
Dr. Jonathen Crane, the supervillian known as Scarecrow, dedicated his life to fear, found himself bonding with the entity of Parallax.
Blackfire, sister to the New God known as Starfire, always had a hatred for all of mankind. With the Butcher entity inside of her, she now finds herself bound to Red Lantern law as Bloodfire.
Mary Batson, sister to former Captain Marvel Billy Batson (more on him later) as well as a former costumed hero herself, never gave up on herself, and always had a never ending hope in mankind. With that, the entity of Hope bound itself to her, making her once again Mary Marvel.
Garth, former would-be partner of Aquaman, always had a never ending compassion between both the surface world and his own Atlantian people. With this compassion, the Indigo Lantern entity bound itself to him and now he stands as The Tempest.
The last two entiries of Love and Avarice, were never met to be together, but they soon found unlikely hosts in the great beyond...
Ralph Dibny, the Elongated Man, always wanted to be the greatest hero in the world. He freely admitted that he was jealous of his other heroes, but it was the love of his wife, Sue Dibny, that always kept him in check. The two ended up dying side by side at the end of the Crisis when they sacrificed themselves to keep Felix Faust from stealing the helmet of Doctor Fate (again...more on that helmet later). However, after their death, the two entities found the Dibnys to be the perfect hosts.
Ralph took on the Avarice entity, who had a strong enough heart to keep the greed in check and took on the codename of the chemical that used to give him his fantastic elastic powers, Gingold.
Sue takes on the Love entity called the Predator, immediatly finding a distaste for the name. Until she can think of a better one (all her favorite names are taken), she simply wants to be called Sue.
Finally, the entity of life takes on a form of its own. Years ago, there was a legend of a scientist who was caught in a violent lab explosion while in the jungle and dove into a nearby swamp to put out the flames. In the process, the swamp itself bound itself to him, making him into the eco-friendly hero Swamp Thing. The life entity finds the scientist's body in the swamp and binds itself to him, making Swamp Thing a reality.
Together, these eight individuals with almost nothing in common have taken to the skies and set up a Moonbase to keep an eye on the entire galaxy, taking on the mission as the new Guardians of the Universe.
And not a moment to soon. A new threat has revealed itself across the galaxy.
Black Hand still stands. And so does what's left of the Black Lantern Corps...
